Personal Publishing/Cyberbullying

I believe personal publishing is posting something you enjoy publically for many other people to see.  It helps to share your ideas, personal beliefs and memories with your friends, family, and other people who are interested.

When you are publishing, be aware of what you say. You don’t want to post anything that could hurt anybody’s feelings or reputation.  You should always know who is able to see your posts and pictures so you do not get stalked, or followed by people you don’t know.  Things you post will never go away.

I think cyberbullying is very wrong.  I don’t understand why people enjoy doing it.  I think it should be stopped, because young people are becoming depressed and hurting themselves or others.  It makes people feel unwanted and unloved by the world.  People don’t act the same and it could perminatly damage someone’s life.

 Cyberbullying

1. What are some of the negative effects that CB can have on a person?
Cyberbullying can lead to depression.  It can make a person feel very upset and hurt.  The person may come to feel like they are unwanted by everyone.
2. Where does CB commonly occur?
CB usually occurs on social networking sites and in chat rooms.
3. How much CB is out there?
CB is everywhere. Estimates of the number of youth who experience CB vary widely (10-40%) depending on age and how CB is defined.
4. How is CB different from traditional bullying?
The victims don’t always know who the bully is when it’s online.  Plus people can say things differently online than in person.
5. Why is CB becoming a major issue?
Too many people are cyberbullying others, because I think it is easier to get away with. Kids are getting more involved with technology and it is easier to be bullied.
6. What are the biggest challenges in the fight to stop CB?
Many people don’t see the harm associated with it and not everybody is okay with standing up and saying that it’s wrong.
7. Are there any warning signs that might indicate when CB is occurring?
If the person stops using normally used technology they could be cyberbullied.  These are some other ways: if they stop talking about technology or certain discussions in chat rooms, appears unsure about going to school or in public, or becomes withdrawn from friends and family.
8. What can parents do?
Try to talk to their children.  They can also make sure they feel safe and loved at home and school.
9. What should schools do to prevent CB?
They can teach about safe and responsible internet use.
10. What should schools do to respond to CB?
Let students know CB is unacceptable and wrong.
11.  How is CB and school climate related?
There are bullies everywhere, that’s why it’s important to let everyone know it’s wrong.
12. What can youth do?
Kids can be nice to each other and treat everyone as an equal.  They can also use safe internet sites and watch what they publish and develop a relationship with an adult they trust.
13. What can bystanders do?
Bystanders can stand up for others who are being bullied and help them through their problems.
Bystanders can step in and stand up for others.
14.    What can law enforcement do?
Law enforcement can step in and try to find the bullies.  They can also talk to children about CB and help them understand it is wrong and they have people to talk to.
