The KKK-Reasearch Essay

The KKK

The Ku Klux Klan first emerged following the Civil War as America’s first true terrorist group. Since it’s beginning, the Ku Klux Klan has seen several cycles of growth and collapse, and in some of these cycles the Klan has been more extreme than in others. In all of its incarnations, however, the Klan has maintained its dual heritage of hate and violence.

At first, the Ku Klux Klan focused its anger and violence on African-Americans, on white Americans who stood up for them, and against the federal government, which supported their rights. Eventually as times changed, they added more categories to its enemies list, including Jews, Catholics (less so after the 1970s), homosexuals, and different groups of immigrants.

In most of these cases, these enemies were minority groups that came into direct economic competition with the lower- and working-class whites that formed the core of the Klan.

In addition, in the early 2000s, many communities in the United States began to experience a significant increase in immigrants, especially Hispanics, for the first time in their histories. A single-issue movement opposing immigration has helped create fear and anxiety about immigration in the minds of many Americans.

Many Ku Klux Klan groups have attempted to take advantage of that fear and uncertainty, using anti-immigration sentiments for recruitment and propaganda purposes, and to attract publicity.

More than 40 different Klan groups exist, many having multiple chapters, or “klaverns,” including a few that boast a presence in a large number of states. There are over a hundred different Klan chapters around the country, with a combined strength of members and associates that may total around 5,000.

I believe that this is wrong.  It isn’t right to discriminate people because of race.  Everyone should be treated equal and feel welcomed here in the states.

Personal Publishing/Cyberbullying

I believe personal publishing is posting something you enjoy publically for many other people to see.  It helps to share your ideas, personal beliefs and memories with your friends, family, and other people who are interested.

When you are publishing, be aware of what you say. You don’t want to post anything that could hurt anybody’s feelings or reputation.  You should always know who is able to see your posts and pictures so you do not get stalked, or followed by people you don’t know.  Things you post will never go away.

I think cyberbullying is very wrong.  I don’t understand why people enjoy doing it.  I think it should be stopped, because young people are becoming depressed and hurting themselves or others.  It makes people feel unwanted and unloved by the world.  People don’t act the same and it could perminatly damage someone’s life.

 Cyberbullying

1. What are some of the negative effects that CB can have on a person?
Cyberbullying can lead to depression.  It can make a person feel very upset and hurt.  The person may come to feel like they are unwanted by everyone.
2. Where does CB commonly occur?
CB usually occurs on social networking sites and in chat rooms.
3. How much CB is out there?
CB is everywhere. Estimates of the number of youth who experience CB vary widely (10-40%) depending on age and how CB is defined.
4. How is CB different from traditional bullying?
The victims don’t always know who the bully is when it’s online.  Plus people can say things differently online than in person.
5. Why is CB becoming a major issue?
Too many people are cyberbullying others, because I think it is easier to get away with. Kids are getting more involved with technology and it is easier to be bullied.
6. What are the biggest challenges in the fight to stop CB?
Many people don’t see the harm associated with it and not everybody is okay with standing up and saying that it’s wrong.
7. Are there any warning signs that might indicate when CB is occurring?
If the person stops using normally used technology they could be cyberbullied.  These are some other ways: if they stop talking about technology or certain discussions in chat rooms, appears unsure about going to school or in public, or becomes withdrawn from friends and family.
8. What can parents do?
Try to talk to their children.  They can also make sure they feel safe and loved at home and school.
9. What should schools do to prevent CB?
They can teach about safe and responsible internet use.
10. What should schools do to respond to CB?
Let students know CB is unacceptable and wrong.
11.  How is CB and school climate related?
There are bullies everywhere, that’s why it’s important to let everyone know it’s wrong.
12. What can youth do?
Kids can be nice to each other and treat everyone as an equal.  They can also use safe internet sites and watch what they publish and develop a relationship with an adult they trust.
13. What can bystanders do?
Bystanders can stand up for others who are being bullied and help them through their problems.
Bystanders can step in and stand up for others.
14.    What can law enforcement do?
Law enforcement can step in and try to find the bullies.  They can also talk to children about CB and help them understand it is wrong and they have people to talk to.

Class Frustration

Class Frustration

Digital Communications frustrates me because:
There are a lot of assignments
I’m not on the computer very often, so I get confused
Other people are loud and distracting so it can be hard to focus on tough assignments

There are many things in school that frustrate me, but Digital Communications is one class that is really frustrating. I get confused easily in this class and so do most of my classmates.  I like having time to work on computers, because I don’t get to be on them often.  The assignments we get in this class can be long and complicated.

The first reason this class frustrates me is that there are a lot of assignments.  I can be slow on the computer; it sometimes takes me a long time to type and research certain items. I would say that we do receive some very simple assignments, but we do get a lot of them. It is also hard when we get a big assignment, for me to get it finished on time.

The second reason Digital Communications frustrates me is that I am not on the computer very often.  I’m not at home for very long each day like some of my friends are, because I am in sports, I babysit, and I sometimes get stuck working at Uncle Mony’s.  I don’t spend much time on the computer at all.  I get confused on what search engines and other tools I should use on the computer.

The last reason that Digital Communications is frustrating for me is that other people can be loud and distracting.  I try to listen, but some of the questions other people ask are unneeded and immature.  If I finally understand something someone always ends up confusing me by asking me a question, because they didn’t try to listen to the teacher explaining everything. Maybe they have the same problem as I do, I know a lot of people do, but some people need to try to listen and get their work done in class.  Those are the reasons I get frustrated in Digital Communications class.

Interesting Blogs

My interesting blog is called Layla's Classic Rock.
Layla's Classic Rock Blog
This blog focuses on Classic rock. It shows many different styles of old rock. I chose this blog because it's colorful and classic rock is my favorite kind of music.  It has old pictures and it's fun to look at. I enjoy it, because I know the artists and their songs.  It's cool to see the cool pictures of the artists and the covers of their CD's/albums. I really like how on the bottom of the blog there are a lot of bands. I think this blog is user friendly, because the comments on it are polite and there arent any inapropriate unappealing things on it. There's nothing very confusing to me about this blog. It's organized and neat. I would follow this blog, because I like classic rock and it's very interesting.  Andrea Accorsi: Truth in Shredding.  Both of these blogs are about classic rock. I like them both, because they have a lot of pictures and videos.  I would prefer the first of the two blogs, because it's more colorful and interesting. 70's Classic Rock this blog is also colorful and has pictures and videos. I would still prefer the first blog over this blog, because the first blog is more exciting.
